On 17 and 18 May 2022 the Global Leaders Forum organised under the chair of Siãn Keall, Partner Travers Smith London, their first annual employment forum in London.
Partner Pierre Elvinger co-moderated a panel under the header “The Gig Economy”. The term “gig” originated as slang for “work” in the music industry a hundred years ago, but became popularised as the “gig economy” about a decade ago after the financial crisis. As temporary and flexible jobs become more common legal clarity still lags and public/political opinion can be polarised. The panel discussed the following areas:
- Status of gig economy.
- Working time and pay for gig economy.
- One-sided flexibility.
