We allocated a special budget to sponsor the project “Digital Village” in Kankan.
In Guinea, 14,326 schools were closed due to COVID 19. This affected nearly 3 million learners from preschool to secondary school in a country where nearly 1.5 million children aged 5-16, were already out of school.
The main objective of the “Digital Village” project was to enable the children to benefit from quality learning through access to ICT. Equipping the 12 family homes in the village with computers, together with keyboards, screens and mice, to enable children not only to learn and strengthen their use of computer tools, but above all to have access to the learning resources available online.
In addition, the children are trained to use computer tools such as Windows, Microsoft and the Internet.
The SOS Children's Village in Kankan's care programme supports 51 children in 12 family homes. The children also benefit from holistic care that covers various areas such as health, nutrition, psychosocial care, education, housing and clothing.
