Karolina Szpinda focuses her practice on financial services regulation, capital markets and sustainable finance. She advises regulated entities, including credit institutions, payment institutions, electronic money institutions, crypto-asset service providers (CASPs), other professionals of the financial sector as well as listed companies, on regulatory, governance and compliance matters.

Karolina started her legal career at Elvinger Hoss Prussen in 2011 working on corporate law matters and returned to the firm in 2024 after a decade at the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). During her time at the CSSF, she gained first-hand supervisory experience in capital markets before joining the legal department, where she advised on financial regulation and enforcement matters. She combines experience gained in private practice and at the regulator with a practical understanding of how regulation is developed, interpreted and applied in practice. This enables her to provide practical, solution-oriented advice grounded in a deep understanding of supervisory expectations and market practice.

Karolina plays an active role in the Firm’s regulatory knowledge strategy and thought leadership initiatives, helping clients to navigate regulatory developments and implement new frameworks. She regularly publishes on legal and regulatory developments and delivers trainings. 

She is also an active member of the FEDIL Sustainability Legislation Experts Forum and the LuxCMA Sustainable Finance Working Group.

Career and memberships

Re-joined Elvinger Hoss Prussen in 2024.

Prior to re-joining the firm, she worked 10 years within the legal and supervisory departments of the Luxembourg’s supervisory authority of the financial sector (CSSF).

Member of the Luxembourg Bar since 2011.

Member of the Sustainable Finance Working Group of the Luxembourg Capital Markets Association (LuxCMA).

Member of the FEDIL Sustainability Legislation Experts Forum.

Former member of ESMA's Proportionality and Coordination Committee (PCC).

Former member of ESMA's Senior Supervisors Forum - Enforcement working group.

LLM in European Banking and Financial Law from the University of Luxembourg.

Master in European Law from the University of Luxembourg.
